Family LawParalegal

A second paralegal seat on a family law team, working directly with attorneys on active cases.

New Port Richey, Florida

Hughes Law Group office, New Port Richey, Florida
Full time, Monday through Friday On site in New Port Richey $45,000 to $70,000

The Position

A second paralegal, beside the one already here.

Hughes Law Group is adding a paralegal to the family law team, working directly with attorneys on active cases. This is a second seat rather than a vacancy, so you arrive to a desk with an established paralegal beside you and an office administrator who has supported the practice since 2013.

What you will do.

  • Draft pleadings and correspondence, and organize exhibits
  • Assist with parenting plans and marital settlement agreements
  • Prepare cases for depositions, mediations, hearings, and trial
  • Manage discovery and case preparation
  • Maintain organized files and calendars, and hold the deadlines
  • Support the billing process and account for your time

The caseload is marital and family law throughout Pasco, Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Hernando counties. Files range from uncontested dissolutions that close quickly through matters involving closely held businesses, business valuations, and contested parenting and timesharing disputes.

Who you will work with.

You will work directly with the attorneys on active files rather than through a queue, and you will deal with judicial assistants, clients, and opposing firms on your own. Angela Belair is the firm's paralegal and will be beside you. Hattie Ernst has been the office administrator since 2013 and handles the administrative side, so the paralegal desk stays on casework.

Allyson Hughes is available when you want a second view on how a file is being assembled or where a hearing is heading.

What We Are Looking For

One year or more in a law office, with family law preferred.

Required

Clear writing, and sound judgment with confidential matters. Billing experience, and the time management to hold deadlines and calendars across several active files at once. A professional manner with judicial assistants, clients, and opposing firms.

An associate or bachelor's degree, a paralegal certificate, or Florida Registered Paralegal designation. A Florida notary commission, and prior work in the Pasco, Hillsborough, or Pinellas family divisions.

Candidates who meet part of this and want the rest are encouraged to apply.

The position is full time, Monday through Friday, on site in New Port Richey. The salary band is $45,000 to $70,000, and experience sets the position within it.
